Tump's New Immigration Plan

Trump Wants to Have Immigrants Back?

Recently, President Trump decided that he was going to have a new immigration plan, which was going to cut legal immigration by half. The plan would enact the most far-reaching changes to the system of legal immigration in decades and represents the president’s latest effort to stem the flow of newcomers to the United States. "This legislation will not only restore our competitive edge in the 21st century, but it will restore the sacred bonds of trust between America and its citizens," Mr. Trump said at a White House event alongside two Republican senators sponsoring the bill.

Also, President Trump had revised the immigration bill not allowing immigrants into the United States. But, now he changed the system for granting legal residency, or green cards, by giving priority to high-skilled, English-speaking immigrants. "This competitive application process will favor applicants who can speak English, financially support themselves and their families and demonstrate skills that will contribute to our economy," Trump said today at the White House alongside Cotton and Perdue. Overall, this current event shows that President Trump is going to have some immigrants into the United States.

  1. I do not agree with President Trump's new immigration plan. Trump has said that the new plan will favor those who can speak fluent English, and support themselves and their families while entering the country. However, applicants hoping to enter the U.S. via immigration, are typically attempting to escape their own country because of war, inequality, and danger. These applicants come from countries that do not speak English as their primary language. They also are failing to support themselves and hope to obtain a new job to earn steady income in order to properly support themselves and their families. They hope to enter the country to learn how to contribute to our economy and society. It is simply unfair to favor the very few applicants who meet these standards. Our country was formed off of people who were not able to financially support their families, and were invited into the U.S. with open arms. These people have learned to contribute to our economy. The new plan will greatly affect the level of diversity in the U.S.. We are part of an extremely diverse country, and have learned to accept each other for the most part. In every major city in our country, you will come to see many different races. Our country is known for all of the different cultures and languages spoken. After this new plan has come into affect, our level of diversity will soon be very low because of all of the English speakers. Of course, it is a pro to our country to see as many people employed as possible. Filling our country with as many people with a stable income is a smart idea, but the level of diversity, and safety of refugees is more important. This plan could be executed by making the coast guards more aware and careful about who is entering and exiting the country. Also, the airports immigration and security will ask more questions when people are attempting to enter the country. Applicants will be denied if they do not meet the standards of Trump's new plan, which is overall unfair and wrong.

  2. Since President Trump has started to support the plan of cutting legal immigration by half, it has caused much chaos in and out of the white house. I personally do not support Trump's decision on this immigration plan. According to President Trump, the “competitive application process will favor applicants who can speak English, financially support themselves and their families and demonstrate skills that will contribute to our economy.” Since Trump started to take office, he already has “barred many visitors from select Muslim-majority countries, limited the influx of refugees, increased immigration arrests and pressed to build a wall along the southern border.” He already limited many immigrants and visitors to start with. This was already a big change for immigrants and along with the new plan, it cuts even more applicants from the U.S.. Trump and his allies feel like the country has already taken way too many “low-skilled” immigrants for a good amount of the United States work population. This in my opinion is very wrong. Most of the time, people who come to the U.S. come to start over or leave the harshness of their countries due to war and danger. Even though some people entering don’t speak fluent English, that doesn’t mean they are low-skilled and/or don’t want to help the U.S. and earn a steady income like other Americans. The immigrants enter our country to help our economy and contribute to society. His decision has not been very popular according to the latest Quinnipiac University survey. Just 33 percent of Americans approved of his performance, the lowest rating of his presidency, and down from 40 percent a month ago. Many disagree with this plan, just like me because who would feel like this is a good thing!. How does he think it is okay to just stop allowing people to come to the United States who do not speak fluent English and are trying to escape the harshness and danger of their homeland? The United States is a country with a great level of diversity and welcoming place. However, with Trump changing our countries open arms policy, it would strongly change the way our country is seen and ran. Tom Perez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, stated his opinion that, “instead of catching criminals, Trump [is trying] to tear apart communities and punish immigrant families that are making valuable contributions to our economy...that’s not what America stands for.” I agree with his opinion 100%. I feel that Trump would just ruin the diversity and point of the U.S. if he were to go and change immigration rights. Applicants who are in the United States mostly learned to contribute to the economy and work. Although the upside to this plan is it would give American citizens more jobs from the percent of unemployed immigrants, it shouldn’t mean the amount of immigrants should be cut. However, I agree some part with the green card system because it favors applicants based on skills, education and language ability rather than relations with people already here. This can give a chance to immigrants who are here for work and commitment. But it can be a downside also because many immigrants may not reach to language ability standard. I have many mixed opinions on this topic but I mostly disagree with Trump's plan. Trumps plan to cut legal immigrants by half is very unfair in my opinion. He is basing it off of their ability to speak English and work ability. Isn’t the United States known for its diversity? Why should we change our country to all speak fluent English? This change would make the U.S. all the same and would cause chaos and tension between other countries. President Trumps plan would be a disaster from start to finish in the United States that I don’t want to have happen and witness.

Since there is no previous discussion question here some- What would you do if you were in the shoes of an immigrant entering the United States?

  3. I do not agree with President Trumps new immigration plan. Trump explained that he would make the priority the immigrants that "spoke fluent English, could financially support themselves and their families and demonstrate skills that will contribute to our economy," I along with many others do not agree with this statement. This statement is showing that President trump does not care of the well being of others, and he needs the support, ( money wise). Most of the immigrants are fleeing from their country to gain a better life. If our country denies that to them , then what is left to help them with if we do not allow them to come in and try to make a better life. The United states is supposed to be the land of the free. Everyone who comes to the U.S does not necessarily come with money. They are arriving here for the opportunity to make a better life for themselves and their family. However on the flip side, I do see where he is coming from. President trump does not want people coming here and thinking that they can live off of welfare and others taxes and think that is OK. I think that the people of the United states can be affected in some ways negatively and positively. Th negative being that we could be missing out on a lot of good creativity, and good ideas that the immigrants could bring over. A positive is that the people with money and all of those quality's that Trump wants will be able to contribute to the economy.

  4. My discussion question would be, How do you think this new law will impact the immigrants? If it does affect them , then how?

  5. Although President Trumps immigration plan has improved since the beginning when he had put a complete ban on immigration from many Middle-Eastern countries, I still do not support his new plan. Trump stated that people who "spoke fluent English, could financially support themselves and their families and demonstrate skills that will contribute to our economy," would be chosen over many others. I think that this is selfish. For hundreds of years the United States of America has been the land of new opportunities and a way for people to leave their difficult pasts behind. These people, especially immigrants, have good reasons to come to America. They want to leave their hardships, their war torn lands behind and start a new life. Obviously, many other countries are not as economically stable as the USA and natives of those countries speak their own language. People who are already economically stable in their own countries don't need to come to America because they can already provide for themselves and families. Also people who immigrate here can learn to speak English despite not knowing the language before. Although I know that Trump wants what's best for his country, he should think about this country's history and how America came to life from immigrants no matter who they were. All in all, I think the president should reconsider his decision.

  6. I do not agree with president Trump on the immigration policy. This is because he is saying he will give out green cards to immigrants who are already skilled, working, or supporting their families. However, I'm my opinion I feel like this destroys what America stands for because we have built our country on different cultures coming here to bring what they offer, and to give them a chance of a new, better life. The main thing I think of when I think of the United States is the American dream, which isn't possible if people only have a chance to enter the country if they are already successful. Also, the main reasons I disagree is that most people who want to move to America is because they want a better life because their life is unfair or cruel where they live. With president Trump’s policy, he only wants to help people in a fairly good state of living, which means that the people who really need to immigrant won't have the opportunity. Trump's proposal has some good sides to it. For example Trump stated that only letting on a select few immigrants won't affect us in our competitive edge, and will help the government make a stronger bond with United States citizens. The point he has with the bond between the government and the citizens I find very important because of several reasons. One of the main reasons is because the election was so close, I feel like there is a division in our nation, so building the bond by Trump showing the people that they are the main priority may make the nation unite even more. Also, I feel if our country focuses on the citizens that are already here, then we can become even more of a powerful, successful, and happy and
nation. However, even though I can see where president Trump is coming from I feel like without immigrants the United States won't be what made us great in the past.

Discussion Question: How do you feel about limiting immigrants in the United States? Would you welcome them or fight to make the immigration laws tougher?

  7. I'm not sure I do agree with this. In America, you should be allowed to live freely without having to "benefit" the economy. I think in this case, president Trump is treating these immigrants like machines. Hes saying that they need to be able to do all these things, speak English, and work to be good for America's economy, and if they don't, they won't get a green card? I think that they should be able to be citizens, but if they aren't going to work, they shouldn't get aid from the government. The new immigration plan might cause outrage in immigrant families already in America, how will that go for them? Furthermore, it will be very difficult for Trump to execute this plan. He might be called racist, and many people will become angry over his choice. I can see what he is trying to do to make America a better place by cutting down the people who don't work and just benefit from the government, but I don't think the way he is doing it is going to go well.

  8. I don't agree with President Trump's plan, due mostly in part to the fact that there are immigrants who can't speak fluent english, so that limits the amount of immigrants actually allowed in this country. I have said this before, and I wil say it again: this is hypocrisy. America was founded by immigrants, now this new plan restricts the amount of new people that can actually come into the country, I don't really see what this accomplishes. The reason for this immigration plan is most likely due to President Trump attempting to secure national security, however it feels like this isn't the way to move the country forward. I think that this won't have that large of an impact on American to begin with, because to the people that already live here, they'll view it as not being their problem. However like I said, it will limit the amount of immigrants actaully coming into the country. I think that President Trump will execute his plan by with extreme vigilance, given the fact that he said he will only allow immigrants that speak fluent english, and the tests will probably very thorough.

  9. I personally do not agree with President Donald Trumps plan for immigrants in the United States. Although this plan has imroved from his campaign to ban all immigrants from entering the United States, it will prevent many people from getting any assistance they need from this country. For example, people that are trying to seek help to get out of a dangerous country will not receive it unless they can speak fluent english. Also, what would happen to any immigrants that currently lived in this country? Would Donald Trump force them to leave? If so this could cause outrage and war from anyone who was forced to leave or denied entry into the country. All in all, I do not believe that Donald Trump should ban immigrants from the United States.

  10. Although I do not necessarily agree with all aspects of this new plan, the "competitive application process" seems to be a great way of making sure that immigrants become functional members of American society. Several previous comments have pointed out that immigrants are often in situations where they cannot be expected to bring money with them, and I agree. However, it is very reasonable to expect immigrants to work hard and contribute to the economy. Otherwise, they are simply collecting tax-funded assistance without doing anything in return. Furthermore, if more immigrants speak English, it would be much easier for them to integrate into American society, and by extension contribute to it. Thus, the change in the application process reflects every other application in existence: whatever group you apply to join does not want you if you negatively affect the group. The same can be said of a country, in that if an immigrant has no money, is not willing to work hard, and does not speak the language, then a that country is better off without them than with them. It is in our collective best interest to take in immigrants who will strengthen our society rather than weakening it.

  11. I do not agree with this plan at all. Although I do see where Trump would be going with this. It's still unacceptable. You cannot just let only fluent English speaking immigrants into the country. Especially considering the people who lived in their country their whole life. Learning a new language is very difficult. Especially if you are someone who has not been introduced to a foreign language whatsoever. If you let only English speaking immigrants into the country, it is still a major issue. It's just as bad as banning all immigrants from entering the U.S. This would mean excluding many innocent people who just want a new and better life; it could also mean the tragic separation of families.
