Trump to Skip Kennedy Center Honors & What it Means for America

Due to the very distracting and overwhelming week the entire United States and the White House has had over the past few weeks, President Trump and First Lady Melania had decided to skip the annual Kennedy Center Honors. While it is not unprecedented for the President to skip this honor during times of  preoccupation, as Clinton, Bush and Carter all missed this event due to issues facing them during the time.

This news skipping the event gives us time to recap what has been on President Trump's plate over the past few weeks

  • Failure to remove or replace Obamacare
  • Charlottsville riots/removal of statues
  • Controversial blame on both sides of rioting
  • NAFTA Negotiations
  • Firing of Bannon and other advisors
  • Tension with North Korea

While it can be argued that some of these issues are due to Trump, it still is a lot for one man to handle. As Trump's term continues, America seems to become more divided and always trying to find new ways to find flaws in his actions and now he has been pushed to the point where he felt showing up to this Honor would somehow result in controversy as any attempt Trump makes to unite America ends up blowing up in his face. With the harsh political climate today Trump needs to find a way to untie the American people or else he will never get anything accomplished.

I know this post seems short, but the bigger picture of this look into the reasons of him skipping the event is meant to take a look at all the issues he is facing at once rather than each issue individually

  1. The biggest problem Trump seems to be facing is the negative attention, Trump, while he has been very headstrong, but he is still being judged very harshly, considering how many issues he has inherited. A few things that he is blamed for are his fault, but he is still being blamed for too much. Everytime he tries to do something to unite everyone, as the article says, it just blows up in his face. At this point, I do not think he can really do anything to make people like him, because most people seem unwilling to even give him a chance, which is really too bad as he has a lot of good ideas, he just seems to have difficulty executing these ideas.
