Trump's Speech in Phoenix: What He Said and How it Affected the Protests Afterwards

These past weeks, a lot has happened in American politics. There has been riots, protests, and arguments between opposite groups, politicians, and even the President. Tuesday, President Trump made a speech in Phoenix, Arizona, which afterwards sparked more protests in the streets and all over the country. Trump spoke for approximately 77 minutes about a variety of issues. He began addressing our nation's problems in a normal way, but by the end of his speech, he had lashed out about almost every topic you can think of.  He insulted journalists, defended his past remarks regarding the rally in Charlottesville, and complained about Republican Senators. He even strongly implied that he would pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio. But, perhaps the biggest thing Trump said was that he would shut down the government if he had to in order to finish building his wall on the Southern border. These were just a few of the topics President Trump addressed. In the video below, is his full 77 minute speech.

The links below give a complete list of everything Trump talked about, from tax reforms to immigration. The second link is a video explaining what was said in the speech and how it affected protests and other events later in time.

After his speech, protests ensued all over Phoenix. Before Trump's Speech no violence had taken place between the protesters and supporters. Afterwards however, there was pushing, shoving, and screaming. Police had to make arrests and use pepper spray on crowds of people. Below are a couple links with pictures and more information on what took place in Phoenix after Trump's statements.

After reading these articles and watching the video, there are a couple of important questions that you should answer:

1.) If Trump addressed the issues he talked about in a less aggressive way, do you think protesters would have been calmer as well?

2.) In your opinion did his speech do anything to bring the country together, or was his it just a disorganized rant?

3.) Which topic that he talked about had the biggest effect and caused the most conflict afterward?
