Trump is Willing to go to War with North Korea
While most think this situation can be dealt with verbally, President Trump believes that war is the answer. Recently, North Korea has developed nuclear weaponry that can possibly reach the United States. The President that said he would not tolerate any acts of war from North Korea says that war is most likely our best option.

When dealing with weapons of mass destruction, it is normally a good idea to think about your words. However, Trump told North Korea to "back off while they still could". Trump also exclaimed that "If thousands are going to die, it's going to be over there".This is a bold statement by the President and can bring on serious acts of war.

North Korea would Cease Nuclear Testing in South Korea if U.S. Peace Treaty is Supported
After many disputes with the U.S., North Korea has said is not opposed to a peace treaty. 2 creditable sources cite Kim Jung Un is in favor of a treaty between the U.S. However it is implied that South Korea may not be in favor of this. The biggest issue is that North Korea believes it will not get any benefits out of this.

However, if South Korea does agree with a peace treaty, then North Korea will greatly consider the treaty and may even drop some of its demands. North Korea even says it will cease all nuclear testing since it was mainly to prepare or war with the U.S. But if there was a peace treaty, there would be no point.

If Trump were to propose this treaty while meeting the demands of both South Korea and the U.S., it could prevent a full scale war. This can solve a lot of problems about the nuclear programs between the countries and tie up any loose ends.

Discussion Questions:
1) Should Trump propose a peace treaty or take out North Korea while he has the chance?
2) Is South Korea a big threat to the U.S. or should it be excluded from the treaty?
3) Is North Korea still willing to sit down and verbally discuss this or is Kim Jung Un not trustworthy enough to quietly talk about this?

  1. Adrian, first off this is a very well written post, and I do believe that Trump should propose a peace treaty but then again I don't. It would benefit us in many ways because thats one less major war we have to fight, plus were already fighting against ISIS and other terrorist groups. Also, a treaty might lead Korea into forming an alliance with the US. Its one less war, and one less worry but its still a possiblitliy. Although, on the other hand, Trump says that he is going to "Make America great again" and "Make America safe again," and is willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen. I have faith that he will do this and stick to his word, despite the costs. He's our president so we should trust him at least a little.

  2. The issue with North Korea could easily be solved with a peace treaty allowing for no conflict with bigger powers like china or russia. The peace treaty could certainly ease tension between the US and North Korea and would put South Korea at ease with the lack of nuclear testing. Overall war is not neccesary though it could reunite Korea and would probably create a new war with Russia. It could certainly be talked out and would be easily done. South Korea being mostly an ally to the US is a point were there is the most tension and so leaving it could benifit tensions greatly but would give communist countries an illusion that they can take over.

  3. This is a very interesting article about what Trump can do in the situation with North Korea. I agree with Collin on how Trump should propose a peace treaty because if he does not and in the near future there is a war, there will be weapons of mass destruction against us which could have been with us. Also Kim Jung Un is a very unpredictable person because of his communist ways which can hurt in the long run if Trump ends up trying to take North Korea out now. South Korea is not a very big threat to U.S. because of having being allies and helping them with the Korean war. However, taking South Korea out of the treaty could be a bad decision if we need South Korea later in the future, but will not be able to get them on our side due to kicking them out of the treaty. I believe Trump should sit down with Kim Jung Un and see what they could do to try and keep South Korea in the treaty. Lastly, I believe that Un can be a trustworthy person to discuss a peace treaty, however I think Trump and the U.S. would have to be very careful in what is said and done to keep Kim Jung Un happy and not blow up in our faces. Adrian what is your point of view on this article and what do you think Trump should do when it comes necessary to discuss a peace treaty like this with North Korea?

  4. Trump should do the best he can to propose a peace treaty with North Korea. Starting a war with North Korea would be dangerous, because they potentially have nukes that could reach parts of the United States. Not only that, starting a war with North Korea could lead to other countries joining in such as China and South Korea, and this could potentially spark another world war. South Korea does not seem like a big threat to the situation. Most likely, they will agree with the peace treaty due to them and the United States being allies, and if they agree then North Korea would greatly consider the treaty. I think Un would be very willing to sit down and talk to Trump about a peace treaty, since they are not opposed to a peace treaty. And I think it is also necessary to do this, because North Korea believes there would be no benefits for them if a peace treaty is signed.

  5. The peace treaty is the easiest and safest way to end this dispute. Going into war is dangerous. Not just for us, but the many innocent people in North and South Korea who can tragically be killed while trying to wipe out the enemy. We do not want a repetition of the Cold War. The recovery was not easy last time, so it most definitely will not be much different if it were to happen this time around.

  6. Hi Adrian, I am writing my comment on your post because this is a very important matter that needs to be discussed! As we all know, Trump usually makes bold statements regarding his upcoming plans, and they usually never happen as the outcome. He has made promises in the past that he never granted to us citizens, so I think America starting the war is the least of our problems. I do not think we are currently in a stable and ready position to start a war in the first place. However, that does not mean North Korea will not stop with whatever actions they have coming up. I have to agree with everyone; a peace treaty could be a successful route. At this point, we have no idea what direction North Korea is heading to and creating a peace treaty with them can limit their actions. Something else I would like to mention is is that do we have complete trust for our president? After being let down so many times by Trump from many things such as the transgender military ban and all the things he said he would do during his campaign that has never happened yet, why should we trust what he will say about North Korea? It will be very unpredictable and there is a big possibility that Trump can start the war, despite how unprepared the country is at the moment. Also, even if we attempt to start a peace treaty, is North Korea willing to compromise with us?
I suggest everyone to read this article that describes the fear of how our future will be and how Trump will handle this situation:

  7. I believe that the peace treaty is the best and safest way to go because if we go to war with them again it wont end well and innocent people will get killed that don't deserve to get killed. Also t wouldn't be a good idea because we have weapons that could wipe out tons of people and they have the same weapon that could harm us so i think the safest route is to go with the peace treaty so nobody gets harmed in anyway.
