Trump Bans Transgenders from Joining Military

On July 26, Donald Trump declared that transgender people can't join the army and protect the country that he supposedly runs. He said, "after consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military."

This statement, with heavy meaning, was enough to spur a much needed debate. Men and women who have served in the military previously were deeply offended and hurt that ones own leader would say such a thing. One woman, who was a former male whom served in the army said, "you just got rid of so many contracts with people who are serving honorably." Trump, with very disheartening words, marred many lives yesterday, including the ones who go overseas and sacrifice their lives everyday.

In this day and age, usually this type of situation wouldn't be heard of. Gay marriage was legalized in 2015, transgender people were given more human rights, and those who were blind to these new and better improvements decided that a human life wasn't allowed to serve for their country. A man who has made so many and never ending slurs against innocent people crossed a different line this time.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Do you agree with the action that President Trump took?
  2. If you held a powerful amount of status in the government, what would you have done differently? Or would you have spoken up if you disagreed?
  3. Do you think that President Trump made the right decision and that this decision will truly help the military?
