New Health Bill Could Mean a Cheaper Plan with Fewer Benefits

There has been a lot of controversy over the changes President Trump wants to make to the healthcare bill, and Trump is finally proposing what he wants to change. The bill has been written and presented to the Senate. The next question would be to see if the senators will pass the bill.

From what it seems, Trump has some major changes he would like to put into place in his term as president. These changes could mean policies charging less but giving you a lesser amount of benefits, new funding for opioid treatment, or more money for states to lower premiums for high-cost enrollees. The article also talks about the Graham plan and the Cruz Amendment. The hardest part for President Trump will be to have the senators pass this bill. 50 votes are needed for the bill to pass and many senators are already publicly saying they will not vote for the bill to be passed.

  1. Personally, I do not like this bill or the recent changes made to this bill. One of the new additions to this bill will cause an increase in premiums for pre-existing conditions. I morally do not believe someone should have to pay more money than someone else due to a prior medical condition that they may have had no control over. However, Obamacare did cover pre-existing medical conditions and helped millions of families like mine. This bill also includes many medicaid cuts. Currently there are 70 million people that have medicaid, so that is 1 in every 5 people in the country. Too many people rely on Medicaid and it is unfair to perform unnecessary drastic cuts to this program. Obamacare did not impose any cuts to medicaid. As of right now I do not believe the bill in this condition will pass the senate. There are still republicans that are unaware of what the bill fully entails and how largely it will affect people. Some republicans like Rand Paul refuse to even discuss the bill. Susan Collins will not even consider voting for the bill until less cuts are made to Medicaid. HOwever, if the bill was passed in its current state it will largely affect the lower socio economic class that has medicaid. With all the medicaid cuts many people will be without insurance coverage. If this bill is passed an estimated 24 million people will have lost coverage and are unable to gain coverage by the year 2021. This bill will also force Americans with pre- existing conditions to pay more money due to higher premiums.
