In the article "One Nation, Slightly Divisible" by David Brooks, red states and blue states are described very stereotypical and from a blue stater's perspective. This caused for some descriptions of the red states such like, "when you see them at highway rest stops. they're often really fat..." and,"many of them are racist and homophobic". This would clearly cause arguments between how blue states view red states. Brooks also described blue states as "wealthier, more educated, elite, and progressive". He says red states are more traditional and religious which definitely causes conflict when discussing certain political topics because religion will play a role in red states and progressive change will come into play with blue states. These differences cause conflicts when talking about political issues and cause conflict within our American political culture.
In the video "The Great Divide" part (2/3), the two governors are discussing the issue of health care and Obamacare. The governors go back and forth discussing the topic but never come to an agreement or a compromise on what should happen with health care or which type is better. For our American political culture to be consensual. the two governors should have been able to come up with some sort of agreement on what should happen with healthcare. However, this is not the case and red states vs blue states will continue to happen through political arguments and will continue to divide American political culture which makes our culture very conflictual.
